About Democratism

Democratism is an independent, nonpartisan organization formed to advance the power of the people to shape the future. Democratism launched and promotes the Democracy Decree, which aims to establish a government by consent of the governed in the United States, by instituting popular election of the president and proportional representation in both houses of Congress.

Who We Are

David Gold, Executive Director & President, previously founded and led a software company, practiced plaintiff-side complex litigation, and served as a law clerk to Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, among other things. He holds a JD from Columbia Law School, a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from Brown University. More at davidpgold.org.

Marcia Loughran, Board Member, is a nurse practitioner working in substance abuse research. She is also a published poet who reads her work in the Catskills and New York City. She holds a BSN-MSN from the University of Pennsylvania, an MFA from the Bennington College Writing Seminars, and a BA from Brown University.

Carmela Marner, Board Member, teaches theater at the State University of New York, Oneonta. She is an actor and director and was the Executive/Artistic Director of the Franklin Stage Company for ten years. She holds a BA from the three-year Acting Program at the Central School of Speech & Drama, UK, and a BA with Honors from Brown University.

Steven J. Brams, Advisor, is a Professor of Politics at New York University and the author, co-author, or co-editor of 18 books and about 300 articles. A leading expert in voting and elections, he is a former president of the Peace Science Society, former president of the Public Choice Society, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Guggenheim Fellow.

Adrian Bridges is a freelance musician based in Philadelphia. His work as a guitarist and composer spans from classical music to jazz, bluegrass, and hip hop, and as a sound designer, he develops aural landscapes for theater. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Guitar) and Master of Music (Composition) from New York University.

Martha Domnikov is a health and fitness professional with a B.S. in Exercise and Wellness. She currently works in a corporate wellness setting in San Francisco and teaches yoga classes in her free time. Her health education has informed her political activism, and she is always looking for ways to get involved in her local community.

Emma Freedman is an undergraduate student at Carleton College. She plans to major in Political Science and International Relations and minor in Spanish. Emma has spent a significant amount of time traveling, which has inspired an interest in human rights as well as international law and politics. She is also an avid outdoor enthusiast and a contributing editor to her college’s student newspaper.

Aly Hill is an undergraduate student at the University of Utah, majoring in communications and political science and minoring in campaign management. She was ranked top thirty in extemporaneous speaking at the national speech and debate tournament, and she hopes to utilize her passion for public speaking and writing to inform the public about key political issues.

Nancy Kaszerman is a voiceover artist and photographer living in New York City. She provides narrations for a variety of diverse projects including e-learning, commercials, corporate video, explainers, training, docs, video games, and much more. Peiran "Jennifer" Ma is a high school student and immigrant rights activist in New York City. Her personal immigration experience has inspired her advocacy work and motivates her to seek fairer representations of the immigrant population. She also loves reading about history, especially on the often neglected perspectives.

Jesse Mangan was raised in the wilds of Massachusetts, where he was taught to prepare for the imminent collapse of western society; when that didn't pan out he became an artist. Today he is an interdisciplinary storyteller with undergraduate degrees in fine arts, multimedia design, and movement science. He works as a freelance illustrator and animator with occasional expeditions into the performing arts.

Margo Nemanov is an aspiring Interactive Media student at Clark University. As an immigrant, she brings a unique perspective to her work, having witnessed the weakening of democracy in her home country. Margo’s personal story fuels her commitment to social justice. Annika Pillai is an undergraduate student at Tufts University, where she plans to major in English. Passionate about social justice and human rights, she aims to pursue a career in immigration law in the future. In her free time, Annika loves to read; her favorite genres are thrillers and historical fiction.

Lisa Rebecca Ridley has worked in human services for many years as a direct support provider, certified peer specialist, and a "life-sharing" provider. She's an "old soul," who's interested in far too many things! She loves Historical re-enacting, decorating, the arts, and music. She's the mother of four grown children and "Nana" of three grandchildren. She dreams of more voice-over opportunities, and living near the ocean!

Valerie Stoker is an author and educator based in Ohio. She supports democracy in a variety of ways including registering voters, advocating for state and federal redistricting initiatives, monitoring election sites on Election Day, and working with Democratism.

Democratism Inc is a charitable organization with 501(c)(3) status. It conducts no substantial lobbying or other activities restricted under section 501(c)(3). Its sibling organization, Democratism Action, is an unincorporated association and may conduct such activities.
