I am your constituent, and I’m writing to urge you to introduce and support the Restore the Constitution Act in the [NAME OF LEGISLATURE].
The United States is in the midst of an authoritarian takeover. The federal executive has abandoned constitutional governance, refusing to execute the laws of Congress, defying court orders, violating fundamental rights like due process and free speech, politicizing federal agencies to target opponents, and dismantling the institutions people depend on. Congress and the courts have proven unwilling or unable to stop it.
Your constituents are already being harmed, by misallocated federal funds, degraded emergency services, and the denial of basic rights.
With a lawless executive operating in opposition to the constitutional order, it now falls to state and local governments to protect their communities. The Act both declares the crisis and commits this legislature to defend its people and work to restore constitutional governance. It establishes the structure for coordinated and strategic action across jurisdictions, and begins enforcement through a private right of action in state court for harms caused by federal officials who violate rights.
